Space Engineers’ free Prosperity update is live on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. It adds a Factorum encounter and Prototech O2/H2 Generator, then spends much of its effort making ships, stations, and survival setbacks easier to manage.
The Patch Impact Score is 72. The Reinstall Signal is 67, or Worth Another Look. This is not a new campaign, but it is a strong systems update for players who value persistent builds and practical engineering tools.
Recovery becomes part of the economy
Service terminals and grid recovery extend the Economy 2 framework. That matters after a destructive accident: the update gives players more ways to understand, locate, and recover owned infrastructure instead of treating every loss as an opaque disaster.
The Factorum encounter and Prototech generator give survival players a new objective and a useful reward. Builders receive new blocks, while projector controls and grid pings reduce the routine labor around construction and navigation. A modernized respawn ship should also make a fresh start less dated.
Who gains most
Long-running survival groups benefit from the recovery and service tools. Large-project builders gain from projector control, and newer or returning players get clearer ways to find grids and recover from failure. Players interested only in decorative blocks should separate the free update from the paid Prosperity Pack, which is an optional cosmetic and decorative purchase.
The update also fixes laser, wheel, audio, block, and general engineering problems. Those corrections can make established saves smoother, but the official notes do not promise that every multiplayer or physics edge case is resolved.
Is it a reason to reinstall?
Yes if a lost grid, awkward projector workflow, or stale survival loop drove you away. The new encounter alone is modest; the combination of encounter, reward, economy recovery, navigation, and building improvements creates the stronger case.
Compared with the earlier Economy 2 foundation, Prosperity makes those systems more useful during ordinary play. It is an integration update as much as a content drop.
No hands-on testing is recorded for this report. The verdict reflects official notes, not independent verification of save compatibility, server behavior, or block performance.
Practical changes outlast the new encounter
The Factorum encounter is the easiest feature to advertise, yet service terminals, recovery, projectors, and pings are likely to affect more hours of a long save. They shorten the distance between an engineering mistake and a useful next decision. For groups managing several grids, that can be more valuable than a single combat objective.
Solo creative builders gain less from economy recovery, but projector controls and new blocks still reduce friction. Survival groups that enjoy risk gain the most, because loss remains meaningful without being needlessly hard to diagnose. The update does not remove the need for backups or careful ownership settings, and it does not turn old creations into automatically optimized designs. Returning players should test new recovery behavior on something expendable before depending on it.
Returning Player Tax: C
The Returning Player Tax is C. Review service terminals, grid recovery, projector controls, grid pings, and the current respawn flow. Core building and survival knowledge remains valuable, so the refresher should be manageable.
