Diablo IV’s Season 15, the Season of Hell’s Legacy, launched September 15 as patch 3.2.1. Blizzard presents it as the centerpiece of Diablo’s 30th anniversary: a seasonal questline through recreated locations from the older games that brings back the Prime Evils, Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal, with Deckard Cain returning as a guide.
The Patch Impact Score is 57, or Major. The Reinstall Signal is 60, or Worth Another Look. The season starts you from scratch, layers several new systems on top of the loop, and needed four hotfixes in its first eight days, with a bug-fix build listed for September 30. No hands-on testing is recorded here.
A questline built on Diablo’s past
The seasonal story sends players against echoes of the three Prime Evils, and the rewards are built to feel like a greatest-hits collection. Soul Splinters are gems tied to a demon or artifact, each carrying a boon and a liability, and up to three can be worn in jewelry slots. Waking Nightmares recreate classic showdowns in three sizes: multi-level capstone dungeons, standard dungeons, and one-room open-world encounters. The capstones can be replayed for rewards on Torment levels.
The season continues the Season 14 story about the dead returning, but its wrapper is nostalgia rather than a new threat. That should suit lapsed players who remember the older games, and it gives the questline a clearer identity than a list of objectives.
Gear, crafting, and the items that stay
Nine Legacy Uniques are permanent on both Seasonal and Eternal characters, including Messerschmidt’s Reaver and Stone of Jordan, so this season’s loot has value beyond the season. Unique Charms add another way to use unique effects, and some Legacy Uniques also drop as charms.
Crafting gets attention too. Two new Horadric Cube recipes let you reroll unwanted affixes while protecting the ones you want, a Unique can be upgraded to Mythic while keeping all its affixes, and the Blacksmith sells two Mythic caches. Rebirth returns for players who want to bring an Eternal character into the Seasonal realm at level 1 while keeping its class, name, and appearance. Stash your gear first: Rebirth is blocked until nothing is equipped or in your personal inventory, and items you keep are lost. The new Horadric Post delivers team rewards, messages, supplies, and commemorative items to your account.
Balance changes to check
Blizzard’s notes cut how much damage Strength adds to Barbarian Core skills, so Barbarian players should expect to revisit gear and skill choices. They also raise the damage Sorcerers get from Intelligence and adjust skills for Sorcerers and Necromancers, and outlets describe sweeping changes across the other classes, which this report could not itemize. Read the full 3.2.1 notes before committing to a build guide from an earlier season.
What was rough at launch
Login failures delayed the Seasonal Realm on launch day. The first hotfix that day fixed logins and opened the realm, though Solo Self Found stayed unavailable. Later hotfixes included fixes for a Stealth Runeword transfiguration bug on September 17, Tree of Whispers caches that could not be claimed on September 18, and a Tristram fountain that consumed Wirt’s Lucky Coins without opening a portal on September 22.
Blizzard has listed build 3.2.2 for September 30. It targets progression blockers in the seasonal questline, including a portal entered too quickly that can stall the story, a hive in Lester’s Farm that can block dungeon progress, and a Chamber of Bone that gave no rewards, along with several Runeword and skill fixes. If you rush the questline, expect to hit those walls until the build lands.
Who should return
Players who want a reason to try the anniversary theme, the Legacy Uniques, or the new crafting recipes have plenty to chew on, and Eternal characters can take part through Rebirth. Wait if you want a stable first week or if your main is a Barbarian who has not yet seen the new scaling. Players who rushed to the end of the questline and got stuck have a fix coming.
Returning Player Tax: C
The Returning Player Tax is C. A seasonal character begins fresh, and a lapsed player must learn Soul Splinters, Waking Nightmares, the new Cube recipes, charms, Rebirth preparation, and the Horadric Post. Old build guides and gear plans should be treated as starting points, especially for Barbarians.
How Season 15 compares with Season 14
Season 14, the Season of Death Awakening, launched June 30 on patch 3.1. Season 15 keeps that story going but changes the wrapper, and Blizzard says its Season Journey, nine ranks and 125 objectives, is bigger than last season’s. A free Battle Pass track, the Reliquary, adds a mount and other rewards for everyone, with paid tracks available.
Blizzard’s BlizzCon panel on September 13 previewed future seasons and the Amazon class, which is due in 2027. That is context for what comes next rather than something Season 15 ships, and the 60 reflects a season that is clearly worth a look but not yet a settled one.
