Valheim
Find out what Valheim 1.0 changes, whether your old world still makes sense, and what to check before returning.
Version 1.0 is Valheim's clearest reason yet to return, but a fresh world is the cleanest way to reach the Deep North.
Valheim reached version 1.0 on September 9, 2026, leaving Early Access and opening the Deep North. The final biome arrives alongside new weapons, creatures, building pieces, materials, food, events, mechanics, achievements, and a broad set of interface and engine improvements.
Is now a good time to return?
Yes—especially if the unfinished final biome was the reason you stopped playing. The Deep North gives the survival sandbox a clear destination, while the new equipment, crafting, building, and exploration additions make the return more than a sightseeing trip.
Your existing save can continue, but Iron Gate recommends starting over for the best experience. If you keep an old world, remember that new biome generation works properly only in areas you have not explored, and check your mods, equipment, food, and achievement plans before setting out.
What should you watch out for?
The Ocean is not a specific focus of 1.0, large builds are not expected to benefit greatly from the listed optimisations, and mods are not guaranteed to work at launch. Crossplay is supported, but save progression is not universally shared between platforms. Read the full report before deciding whether to resume an old world or begin a new saga.

Valheim 1.0 Is the Deep North Return Point
The final biome is the headline, but the real return case is a full release that changes exploration, building, progression, and how old saves should be approached.
